Rwanda-Backed M23 Rebels "Seize Goma City" From Congo Army | US, China Urge to “Halt" Offensive

Rwanda-backed M23 rebels have reportedly seized control of Goma, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, within two days, with clashes leaving over 100 dead. The rebels overwhelmed local hospitals, forced UN peacekeepers to shelter in their bases, and seized Goma’s international airport, a strategic move to cut off aid. The US expressed deep concern and urged the M23 to halt their offensive, while China called for the withdrawal of Rwanda's support. The African Union and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa also condemned the violence and demanded the rebels’ withdrawal from occupied areas. More than 500,000 people have been displaced in January alone. n18oc_crux
